Dr. Ismael Awala is a dedicated and highly skilled cardiothoracic surgeon who currently serves as a consultant at the Cardiac Unit of Windhoek Central Hospital and at his private practice at the Roman Catholic Hospital. A proud Namibian, Dr. Awala brings not only exceptional medical expertise to his role but also a deep commitment to the well-being of his patients and the advancement of healthcare in his country.

Known for his professionalism, compassion, and conscientious nature, Dr. Awala consistently places his patients at the center of his work. His confident decision-making and strong interpersonal skills have earned him the respect of his colleagues and the trust of those under his care.

Dr. Awala’s journey in cardiothoracic surgery began in 2010, coinciding with the year Namibia started offering cardiac surgery in both state and private sectors. He worked as a primary assistant under the visionary Dr. Henning Du Toit until 2014. In 2015, he joined the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital and King Dinuzulu Hospital in Durban, South Africa, serving as a registrar. There, he honed his expertise in open-heart surgery, general thoracic procedures, including thoracic trauma, and emergency care in the cardiac ICU.

His current practice encompasses a broad range of cardiothoracic interventions, including coronary artery bypass (CABG), valve repair, corrections of simple congenital defects, and general thoracic operations.

Dr. Awala is also a board member of the Namibia Heart Foundation. When he is not in the operating room, he is committed to giving back to the community through health initiatives, including free outreach programs for older residents from his village.
