The final day of Steps2Walk Namibia 2026 offered a moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the extraordinary impact of the past week.
Following three intensive days in theatre, the focus shifted to post-operative care, with teams conducting patient rounds and checking in on recovery and progress. These moments, quieter but no less meaningful, allowed surgeons, healthcare professionals, and families to witness the first steps of transformation take shape.
Over the course of the program, 44 patients received life-changing surgical care across three days of theatre at Windhoek Central Hospital and Lady Pohamba Private Hospital. In total, 57 ankle and clubfoot deformities were corrected. Each procedure represents more than a clinical success. It is a restored future, renewed dignity, and a second chance at mobility, all provided free of charge to state patients.
Throughout the day, heartfelt farewells were shared as we expressed our deep appreciation to the international faculty and fellows who travelled to Namibia to lend their expertise, skill, and compassion. Their contribution has not only changed lives this week but has strengthened local capacity for the future.
We also extend sincere gratitude to the delegates who joined us from across Namibia and the SADC region. Their commitment to learning, through live surgical streaming and direct engagement with faculty, ensures that the knowledge shared during this program will continue to ripple outward, reaching many more patients in the years ahead.
This initiative stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved through collaboration. From sponsors and stakeholders to multidisciplinary healthcare teams, every contribution has played a role in delivering accessible, life-changing care.
Above all, we acknowledge the patients and their families. Their trust, courage, and hope remain at the heart of everything we do.
Though the program may have come to an end, its impact is far from over. The skills transferred, the lives transformed, and the partnerships strengthened this week will continue to shape a more inclusive and hopeful future for healthcare in Namibia.
Steps2Walk Namibia is not just an event. It is a movement. And it continues.
