The 2026 Steps2Walk Namibia program officially commenced with a powerful and heartfelt start, as we welcomed our international faculty, delegates from across Namibia and the SADC region, and most importantly, the patients whose lives are about to be transformed.
From all 14 regions of Namibia, patients arrived, young and old, each carrying their own story, their own challenges, and their own hope for a better, more mobile future. Lined up, side by side, there was a shared sense of anticipation and courage that filled the Chapel of Windhoek Central Hospital.
Our world-class faculty of surgeons began the day with thorough patient evaluations, carefully reviewing each case. Every patient was seen, every story heard, and every surgical plan thoughtfully considered. These individual consultations form the foundation of the life-changing work that lies ahead.
Following these assessments, the faculty came together to discuss each case in detail, mapping out surgical approaches and scheduling procedures across two key facilities: Windhoek Central Hospital and Lady Pohamba Private Hospital.
With three full days of theatre ahead, the energy is one of focus, purpose, and determination.
But Steps2Walk is about more than surgery.
At Lady Pohamba Private Hospital, live visual screenings will allow delegates (medical officers from across the continent and region) to observe procedures in real time. This unique learning environment ensures that knowledge is shared, skills are transferred, and local healthcare professionals are empowered with the latest techniques to continue this work long into the future.
As the week begins, one thing is clear: this is not only about restoring movement; it is about restoring dignity, independence, and hope.
The journey has begun.
