The infection control consultant applied a small amount of UV GERM lotion onto the hands of the Registered Nurse (RN)
The infection control consultant utilized ultraviolet (UV) light as a visual aid during hand hygiene education rounds to raise awareness among healthcare workers about the effectiveness of individual handwashing.
Inadequate hand-washing techniques can leave behind countless microscopic germs and particles that can hide in the nooks and crannies around the cuticles and under the fingernails.
Effective handwashing can prevent the spread of germs.
For training purposes, the nurse rubbed the UV Germ lotion onto her hands and wrists.
When examined under UV Forensic Light, the nurse’s hands and wrists glowed brightly, indicating complete coverage of the lotion. The nurse then washed her hands using Bioscrub in an aseptic (techniques refer to any method used to sterilize and maintain the sterility of an object) manner.
When viewed under UV light, it was evident that certain areas had not been cleaned properly as they were still emitting a blue glow. The Registered Nurse (RN) was trained on the appropriate hand wash technique.
When the RN placed her hands under UV light again, her hands were now free of any glowing UV GERM lotion particles. Proving that her handwashing technique was successful.
